Happy Valentine's Day! Let's celebrate Love and a new collaboration ♥

February 14th is here, if you like it or not: in last hours the web has been invaded by an escalation of posts on it, from those that already organized for romantic dinners and those who, on the other hand, are ironical about their being single.
Talking about me, even if mostly on Valentine's Day I'm like Grinch on Christmas, I have to say that this year I've been good: I wrote more than a week ago the Valentine's post and today I double my wishes. There are two motivations for this...

The first one is that I present you the birth of a new collaboration with a person I really like: the images of this post have been created by the awesome illustrator Sara Elan Donati, with whom CartEssenza hopes to walk a good bit of its way together...:)

The second motivation is simple: I really believe that, to dispel all the negativity of the period, this year we are in need of Love...more Love, indeed.

And so, since we are so much in need of Love, let's take a day to go out of schemes and let's celebrate it in all its forms:

happy Valentine's Day to all those in love with their sweet half, best wishes for a million of these happy days;
happy Valentine's Day to those who are not unrequited and to those who love secretly, because you need courage to gift a piece of you without wanting anything back;
happy Valentine's Day to those who love their life, in couple or alone, easy or complicated, because every day, even if sometimes it's difficult to realize it, they wake up with a smile;
happy Valentine's Day to all those that pursue a goal, a project, a dream with passion and dedition because even this is Love and they show us where firm sentiments can lead;
happy Valentine's Day even to all those that, for any motivation, today cannot hold each other, but they will think to the other a lot...♥

Thanks to Sara Elan Donati for the images, I invite you to visit the links below to support her work, that shares with mine that little thing that, despite all, moves the world: you can call it dreaming, or passion, or simply, indeed...Love ;)

The Inauguration of Bijoux d'Autore 2012 Exhibition @ Bijou Museum in Casalmaggiore - PHOTOS

Last weekend I had the pleasure to personally take part to the inauguration of the second exhibition (open until February 23th) dedicated to the Bijoux d'Autore 2012 Contest's finalists, to which I partecipated with my ring "The Way To Your Heart": useless to say that, like always, this kind of events leave you richer in experience, but most of all for the meeting of extraordinary people.

In this occasion wasn't different, and I returned back home with my heart full of happiness because I hugged again dear friends and I met new ones; in the photo below you can see the introduction to the exhibition in which there was a precence of two "old friends": Norma De Lucia, President of Associazione Incontri e Eventi, and the brilliant creative at the back of Caracol, Eleonora Battaggia, winner of the contest :)

In addition to hug again my friends and meeting new ones, I finally had the possibility to visit the beautiful Bijou Museum of Casalmaggiore, unique in its genre for the exhibition and - like Dott.ssa Letizia Frigerio, "soul" of the Museum, highlighted - for activities' number and vivacity.

And here it is my work: the papier maché ring "The Way To Your Heart" that at the end I decided to donate to the Bijou Museum's Collection; I have to say it's been really hard to do this, since this is a work I love because of personal vicissitudes in my life in the period I projected and realized it. But maybe, even for this, I felt to give it one more possibility to continue its exhibition history like part of a Museum. And let's hope - why not - this will be of good omen!

I leave you with an image I took while I was taking a walk in Casalmaggiore: a beautiful photo of the Po River banks...

...don't be deceived by the sun, the temperature was very, very cold! ;)

Valentine's Day 2013: only for true (recycle) lovers ♥

The coldest days of the year are just passed and, in my beautiful Genoa, we continue to oscillate between marvellous days and those that, with my great fun, in Ireland I heard been called "miserable days".
However in the air, from some days, there's the smell of the incoming Spring and everywhere people are preparing for Valentine's Day. For this I thought to create some theme cards and to talk you a bit about this festivity that I find really curious :)

At the beginning there were Lupercalia: like a lot of actual christian festivities, even Valentine's Day has roots in the previous pagan culture. Before the advent of Christian Religion, from 13th to 15th February, it was in fact celebrated the roman festivity of Lupercalia, in honour of the god Fauno Lupercus, the protector of cattle from wolves, that in a so cold and poor period were hungry and so were attacking flocks. These days were also dedicated to fertility, like a lot of pagan festivities.

Valentine's Day festivity has been established in 496 A.D. by Papa Gelasio I to replace pagan Lupercalia: it seems, in fact, that the roman population, even if already converted to Christianity, was continuing to celebrate the pagan festivity.

As the patron saint of the new festivity was chosen S. Valentino because of a story, between legend and truth, related to this martyr: it seems that the roman bishop Valentino da Terni, when he was imprisoned due to his christian creed by the emperor Aureliano, before being killed gave back sight to the blind child of a roman noble. He was in love with the girl and, when he was taken away to be decapitated,  left her a goodbye message that was ending with the words "...yours Valentino (valentine)".

Between Lupercalia feast and the Valentine's day, it seems that on the February 14th there was another celebration: the Saint Febronia's one, martyr in Nisibis (actual Turkey), also tied to pagan tradition. The name suggests it, since its root is in Februarius (February), from februare = to purify. Before it seems that in same days was celebrated even the Giunone Februa feast, also Juno Purifier. The festivity was then moved to the June 25th, day in which it's still celebrated mostly in the South of Italy.

Anyway it seems that the Valentine's day as we know it, dedicated mainly to spiritual love, was a lot later: some connect it with the english Chaucer's Circle, some others to cortly love inspired tendencies in France; in fact in Paris, the 14 of February 1400, was founded for example a "Love Tribunal" in which were judged sentimental litigations.

In the end, from XIX century started the use of sending to your own lover valentines, love notes taking the name from the day, and later flowers, jewels, chocolates boxes and other presents.
If then you don't have really no one to dedicate a thought in Lovers' Day, you don't have to worry: the February 15th, in fact, it's celebrated San Faustino, the saint that in last years became protector of single people ;)

Now that you know the roots of this festivity, what you think: we celebrate together?
